There is no tourist who visits Portugal who does not take home a rooster in their suitcase! Roosters are present in all kinds of souvenirs, keyrings, magnets, bags, towels, and t-shirts. The miracle of saving a falsely accused pilgrim is attributed to Saint James ( São Tiago, in Portuguese) and is territorially linked to the road to Santiago of Compostela. In the Archaeological Museum of Barcelos there is a 14th-century granite cross alluding to this legend, representing the aforementioned “miracle”.
