Traditional Stethoscope Doctor's Tie - Blue

Give a great tie, and enough anecdotes about the Stethoscope to fill uneasy pauses in numerous conversations. The stethoscope was invented in 1816 when a young French physician named Rene Theophile Hyacinthe Laennec was examining a young female patient. Laennec was embarrassed to place his ear to her chest ( Immediate Auscultation ), which was the method of auscultation used by physicians at that time. He remembered a trick he learned as a child that sound travels through solids and thus he rolled up 24 sheets of paper, placed one end to his ear and the other end to the woman's chest. He was delighted to discover that the sounds were not only conveyed through the paper cone, but they were also loud and clear. The first recorded manuscript documenting auscultation using the stethoscope ( Mediate Auscultation ) was in March 8, 1817, when Laennec noted examining a Marie-Melanie Basset, who was 40 years old. Laennec preferred to have his instrument simply called "Le Cylindre," as he thought naming such a fundamental instrument was unnecessary. He became remorse at the names it was being given by his colleagues and decided that if it should be called anything, it should be "Stethoscope," which is derived from the Greek words for 'I see' and 'the chest.' Laennec was a skilled wood turner and set up a small shop in his home with a wood-turning lathe and stocked different types of wood.. He created a stethoscope from a turned piece of wood with hollow bore in the center. It was made of two pieces. One end had a hole to place against the ear and the other end was hollowed out into a funnel shaped cone. There was a plug that fit into this cone which had a hollow brass tube placed inside it. This plug was put in the funnel shaped end ot the stethoscope to listen to the heart, and removed to examine the lungs. Laennec published his classic treatise on mediate auscultation in 1819 in which he discussed mediate auscultation and illustrated the design of the stethoscope. A second edition was published in 1826, just after Laennec died from the very diseases he spent long hours studying with the aid of his stethoscope, Tuberculosis. The stethoscope was described as being 12 inches long and 1.5 inches in diameter with a 3/8 inch central bore hole throughout its length. His stethoscope could be bought for 2 francs along with the purchase of the Treatise on Mediate Auscultation. http://www.emsmuseum.org/virtual-museum/by_era/articles/398118-1816-The-Stethoscope

The Pageant Tie is just what I wanted and everyone at church wants one. I have worn it several days now and each day more people come to me to see it and say how great it is. The printing is just as it should be. Each photo is clear and the color is great.

I bought this tie for a cosplay of Haruhi Fujioka for Halloween and anime conventions. It feels very nice and silky. It's my first tie ever, and I'm a pretty big fan since I always wanted a tie. It was longer than I expected it to be (quite a plus), but the purple stripe was also thinner than I expected it to be (a slight bit of a downer, but I don't mind too much). I had never used Zazzle before, but I am very impressed with the shipping time. I was looking for places to get a tie like this so last minute since the ties like this on Amazon were incompatible with Prime. Thus, I ended up here. I paid for express shipping, expected delivery October 30-31, and it arrived in the morning on the 30th. Very impressed. I might just use Zazzle again. The print job was okay. The colors were perfect, but as you can see in the pictures, the stripe was a little off-center, and there was a kink in the stripe around where it transitions from the wide end to the thin end. It should work perfectly for my cosplay, but it was a little too carelessly print to be a very professional tie.

This was such a hit! My brother was really excited to get it. The only thing he said was it was short -but he's 6'3" so it's hard for him to find ties that are long enough for him. Luckily, my other brother (who is the same height) managed to tie his tie so it fit, so he gave it to him. They both remarked on how much they like the ties and the material. Beautiful! Clear vibrant printing! The tie looks GREAT!
