Train Station - Chicago - Let there be light 1943 Postcard

Colorized photo from 1943 Jan Original title: In the waiting room of the Union Station Photographer: Jack Delano Location: 225 South Canal Street Chicago, IL This is Union Station in Chicago, during WW2. Normally there would be a lot of light spilling into this huge space, as there is a large skylight in the ceiling. But during the war, they blacked it out so the enemy couldn't see the building from a plane. As a result, the only real source of lights were those side windows, which at the right time of day, filled the room with that majestic sun light. Now I can't tell if that was the sun or a large outside light, because of the light spread the sun would have to be very close to the building. It might have to do with the angle of the sun. In any case, it must have created a really fun mood, though be it dark. The windows are still there today, but because they removed all the paint from that skylight in 1991, there is so much light in there, that any sort of sun beam would probably be washed out.

I had never seen these classic science fiction images and most of my friends have not seen them either. They are like little treasures! Amazing quality and fun to send people!

I joined Postcrossing a few months ago and wanted postcards to represent my state well. I found them on Zazzle. I purchased numerous cards and was impressed with all of them. Excellent! The colors are beautiful. The cards have the exact look I wanted. I couldn't be happier.
