Tribute to Minerva Floral Ephemera Decoupage Tissue Paper

Tribute to Minerva - This work represents eight little loves and a very young winged goat-foot which offer a sacrifice to Minerva. Symbolizing the Sciences and the Arts, they are surrounded by their various attributes: globe, maps, telescope, palette, ancient bust, lyre or partition. Minerva appears in the sky, accompanied by the owl, the emblem of wisdom and one of its attributes. Charlier is usually inspired, for the layout of his compositions, of engravings executed after works by François Butcher. The figure of Minerva here takes up the attitude of the great central angel from "The Appearance of the Angels to the Shepherds", a painting by François Boucher engraved in reverse by Louis-Marin Bonnet in 1773 (cf. Burollet, Thérèse, 2008, p. 60).
