The ecclectic architecture of the forts bears testimony to the power of the Rajput princely states that flourished in the region from the 8th to the 18th centuries. Amber Fort is a fort located in Amer near Jaipur. The settlement at Amer was founded by Raja Alan Singh, a ruler from the Chanda clan of Meenas in 967. The Amber Fort, as it stands now, was erected over the remnants of this earlier structure during the reign of Raja Man Singh, the Kachwaha King of Amer. Amber Fort is known for its artistic style elements. With its large ramparts and series of gates and cobbled paths, the fort overlooks Maota Lake, which is the main source of water for the Amer Palace.
