UNESCO - Santa Eulalia Basilica / Temple of Mars Postcard

UNESCO WHS Serie - World Heritage Sites in Spain Archaeological Ensemble of Mérida / Conjunto arqueológico de Mérida - The colony of Augusta Emerita, which became present-day Mérida, was founded in 25 BC at the end of the Spanish Campaign and was the capital of Lusitania. The well-preserved remains of the old city include, in particular, a large bridge over the Guadiana, an amphitheatre, a theatre, a vast circus and an exceptional water-supply system. It is an excellent example of a provincial Roman capital during the empire and in the years afterwards. The martyrdom basilica of Santa Eulalia is a religious building and is considered a very important nucleus of the birth of Christianity in the Iberian Peninsula. The original building was built in the 4th century. The current building was built in the 13th century after the reconquest of Mérida on the same floor by reusing some materials. The remains of the Temple of Mars is found in the atrium of the Basilica of Eulialia. It is know as the «Hornito» of Stanta Eulalia. The original construction was raised in the 4th century. Many of its remains can be seen in the "Hornito", which dates back to the 13th century. I joined Postcrossing a few months ago and wanted postcards to represent my state well. I found them on Zazzle. I purchased numerous cards and was impressed with all of them. Excellent! The colors are beautiful. The cards have the exact look I wanted. I couldn't be happier.
