They bear a unique testimony to the development over some 10'000 years of the pre-agricultural yet sedentary Jomon culture and its complex spiritual belief system and rituals. The Komakino Site is an archaeological site containing the ruins of a settlement from the late Jomon period around 2000 - 1500 BC. More than 100 earth pit tombs containing pottery coffins and grave goods with strong religious connections, such as miniature pottery and clay animal and human-shaped figures have been found.
