Vincent Van Gogh Art - The Mulberry Tree - Vincent Van Gogh painted "the Mulberry Tree" in 1889. Van Gogh's paintings were marked by their vibrance, use of fresh color, strong paint strokes. Van Gogh painted The Mulberry Tree when he was in the Saint Paul Asylum in Saint-Remy. In The Mulberry Tree, there is a craggy tree in the center of the painting, growing from rocky terrain, with beautiful swirling tree branches, and a swirling blue sky, against a swirling tan landscape of rocks and light tan grasses. Van Gogh wrote about the Mulberry tree to his brother while he was painting at the Asylum, a time when he was happy. "I’ll tell you that we’re having some superb autumn days, and that I’m taking advantage of them.” The Mulberry Tree is a tree that Van Gogh saw from the Asylum's garden.
