Alexander Reid was an influential Glasgow art dealer. In the 1880s he left Scotland to work in Paris for the art house of Boussod & Valadon. One of his colleagues there was Theo van Gogh, art dealer and brother of the artist Vincent van Gogh. Reid became friendly with both brothers. About the artist: Vincent Willem van Gogh was a Post Impressionist painter whose work was most notable for its rough beauty, emotional honesty, and bold color.
