Also called the Venus Flytrap, it is the only member of the genus Dionaea in the sundew family, the Droseraceae. Native to coastal North Carolina and northern South Carolina, it grows in open bogs. The vintage scientific illustration is by Isaac Sprague, from The Genera of the Plants of the United States, author Asa Gray, published 1849.
