Victorian evening wear crossbody bag

I got this marvelous image from a stack of stack of 1890s-1910 mounted prints owned by a retired antiques dealer, many of which originally appeared in the newspapers of the time. True fact: back in the day, the Philadelphia Inquirer would publish full-size, full-color prints ever Sunday. Some of what I have are these original Inquirer prints. However, this lovely image came from a magazine of the period, and was captioned ‘Handsome Evening Toilettes.’ I can’t find any clothing-related definition of that word. Nevertheless, something beautiful that looks great on all kinds of EVERYTHING. Note that the print appears on both sides of the bag, in mirror image. Wanna see more old?
