And without my expatiating on this theme it is obvious that putting little white dots on the blue-black is not enough to paint a starry sky." This and his "Starry Night Over the Rhone" explore this idea, and stand as two of the most famous nighttime scenes in art. Vincent van Gogh (1853–1890) was probably the most famous Post-Impressionist painter. Never enjoying a great level of success or recognition during his life, his posthumous stature has grown enormously, and he has arguably influenced almost every artist since.
