Vintage Artwork - English Setter Dog,

Vintage artwork by Edwin Megargee features a beautiful English Setter dog in the field. The dog is alert and pointing, its tail extended and one front leg raised while one back leg is extended in a stretch. The American artist, etcher and illustrator, Edwin Megargee (1883-1958) was best known for his portraits and illustrations of animals. A profound animal lover, Megargee endeavored to study the anatomy and skeletal structure of animals and birds so as to be able to paint them exactly as they appear with precise attention to detail. He grew up in Philadelphia, and by the time he was a teenager, he had convinced his father that he could make a career of his artwork. As an adult, he bred and painted gun dogs. He was on the board of directors of the American Kennel Club and illustrated several dog dictionaries. The running greyhound dog logo of the Greyhound Bus Company was designed by Megargee.
