Vintage Artwork - Greyhound Chasing a Rabbit,

Vintage artwork by Edwin Megargee features a hunting scene with a greyhound dog nipping at the heels of a fleeing wild rabbit in a field. A hunter rides on horseback in the background. The American artist, etcher and illustrator, Edwin Megargee (1883-1958) was best known for his portraits and illustrations of animals. A profound animal lover, Megargee endeavored to study the anatomy and skeletal structure of animals and birds so as to be able to paint them exactly as they appear with precise attention to detail. He grew up in Philadelphia, and by the time he was a teenager, he had convinced his father that he could make a career of his artwork. As an adult, he bred and painted gun dogs. He was on the board of directors of the American Kennel Club and illustrated several dog dictionaries. The running greyhound dog logo of the Greyhound Bus Company was designed by Megargee.
