Vintage Carthage Tunisia Travel Postcard

Vintage Carthage Tunisia Travel Postcard

Carthage, located just outside modern-day Tunis, was once one of the most powerful cities of the ancient world and a formidable rival to Rome. Founded by the Phoenicians in the 9th century BCE, it became a major maritime and trading empire controlling large parts of the Mediterranean. Its strategic location and wealth brought it into direct conflict with Rome during the Punic Wars, culminating in its destruction in 146 BCE. The Romans later rebuilt Carthage as an important provincial capital, leaving behind grand public buildings, baths, aqueducts, and theaters that still hint at the city’s past grandeur. Today, Carthage is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with archaeological remains scattered across a modern suburb. Visitors can explore the Antonine Baths, one of the largest Roman bath complexes in Africa; the Tophet, an ancient Punic sanctuary; the Roman Theater, still used for performances; and Byrsa Hill, which offers sweeping views over the Gulf of Tunis. The Carthage Museum houses artifacts from both the Punic and Roman periods, helping to piece together the city’s long and layered history. Its combination of evocative ruins, coastal scenery, and historical significance makes Carthage one of Tunisia’s most important cultural destinations.

I joined Postcrossing a few months ago and wanted postcards to represent my state well. I found them on Zazzle. I purchased numerous cards and was impressed with all of them. Excellent! The colors are beautiful. The cards have the exact look I wanted. I couldn't be happier.
