A vintage illustration by Clara M. Burd from the Swiss children's story of "Heidi" features a dark-haired Heidi kneeling beside her friend, Clara, who is smiling with delight as she holds some kittens in her lap. The American artist, Clara M. Burd (1873-1933) was born in New York, and studied art in New York City and later in Paris. She is best known for her illustrations for children’s books, but she also illustrated for magazine covers, designed stained glass and murals for churches, and painted children’s portraits and scenes from historical periods.
