Vintage Japan Baby Boy Paperweight

A cute & chubby Asian baby boy is trapped inside this retro Japan style glass dome paperweight. But not to worry – not a real baby! it is the ensconced image of my vintage ichimatsu doll, circa WWII. Instead of bisque porcelain, the "skin" of these dolls is made from a layered white pigment containing the shells of various shellfish, such as clams, oysters, and scallops. The doll model (named Kyō) is all original in his tiny silk kimono.
