This red fish is a mysterious fellow who appears in the Bakemono Konrei Emaki (化物婚礼絵巻, Ghost Wedding Scroll), drawn by an unknown artist in the Edo period of Japan, sometime between the early 1600s to the mid 1800s. It is described by the International Research Center for Japanese Studies as a sea bream riding a wooden pedestal, and what more do we need to know, really?
