Vintage - Mermaid in a Grotto, Compact Mirror

A vintage illustration by Harold Gaze depicts a beautiful mermaid sitting on rocks in a grotto as little babies with fairy wings swim around her and play. One baby is floating inside a large bubble at the entrance to the grotto. The artist, Harold Gaze (1885-1962), was born in Christchurch, New Zealand and studied art in England. His life involved several continental moves throughout his career including to Melbourne, Australia and Pasadena, California. In the 1930s, after exhibiting his fantasy and fairy artwork in California, he became known as “The Bubble Man” for incorporating very realistic-looking bubbles in many of his pieces of art. Fairies, elves and babies frequently rode atop or inside bubbles in his creations. Compacts are available in a variety of shapes for you to choose from.
