A vintage Halloween card image depicts one of the beliefs of the Victorian age called mirror divination. A single woman would hold a candle up to a mirror at midnight on Halloween, and supposedly she would see the image in the mirror of her future sweetheart or husband. This was one of several Halloween beliefs held by the Victorians involving young women divining who their future husbands might be. The front of this card says, "Halloween Precautions - If at midnight with a pumpkin light you steal to your room unseen, In the mirror appears the face of your lover true on Halloween." The message inside the card: "Have a spell-binding Halloween."
