We Can Do It! White Cat Rosie the Riveter Belt

We Can Do It! White Cat Rosie the Riveter Belt

"We Can Do It!" is an American World War II wartime poster produced by J. Howard Miller in 1943 for Westinghouse Electric as an inspirational image to boost female worker morale. The poster was little seen during World War II. It was rediscovered in the early 1980s and widely reproduced in many forms, often called "We Can Do It!" but also called "Rosie the Riveter" after the iconic figure of a strong female war production worker. The "We Can Do It!" image was used to promote feminism and other political issues beginning in the 1980s. The image made the cover of the Smithsonian magazine in 1994 and was fashioned into a US first-class mail stamp in 1999. It was incorporated in 2008 into campaign materials for several American politicians, and was reworked by an artist in 2010 to celebrate the first woman becoming prime minister of Australia. The poster is one of the ten most-requested images at the National Archives and Records Administration. After its rediscovery, observers often assumed that the image was always used as a call to inspire women workers to join the war effort. However, during the war the image was strictly internal to Westinghouse, displayed only during February 1943, and was not for recruitment but to exhort already-hired women to work harder. People have seized upon the uplifting attitude and apparent message to remake the image into many different forms, including self empowerment, campaign promotion, advertising, and parodies. After she saw the Smithsonian cover image in 1994, Geraldine Hoff Doyle mistakenly said that she was the subject of the poster. Doyle thought that she had also been captured in a wartime photograph of a woman factory worker, and she innocently assumed that this photo inspired Miller's poster. Conflating her as "Rosie the Riveter", Doyle was honored by many organizations including the Michigan Women's Historical Center and Hall of Fame. However, in 2015, the woman in the wartime photograph was identified as then 20-year-old Naomi Parker, working in early 1942 before Doyle had graduated from high school. Doyle's notion that the photograph inspired the poster cannot be proved or disproved, so neither Doyle nor Parker can be confirmed as the model for "We Can Do It!".

Absolutely outstanding quality with vibrant colors and clear image! I personally loved the product and the characters owner. I added this as a gift to go along with a costume that was commissioned with a strict dec. 1st deadline about mid November, and was shocked with how fast the express shipping was! Despite the fast turnaround time everything turned out great and better that I expected! I’ll definitely make this my go to site for custom stuff! Outstanding print and vibrant colors! Due to the size of the product I’d recommend not doing any small, close touching details, as they could possibly get lost.

Fun! Cute, sassy. Lets me live out my fantasy of being the rebel punk girl. Uses: When you want to look like you borrowed some caution tape from a crime scene to make your outfit more edgy. Makes any outfit look a little more punk! Especially with a plaid mini-skort, or some heavily distressed black jeans. Reversible: Makes it versatile! Change the color with your mood. Two designs on one belt means it’s a great bang-for-the-buck value! Colors: Yellow side is a little lighter. Pink is a dark coral. Colors are very vibrant, in bright sun looks almost neon. Texture: Smooth, silky woven. Belt Buckle: Shiny, metal. Solid and well constructed. Looks really cool!! Keeps the belt in place firmly, as it’s supposed to. A little tricky to figure out if you’re not used to this style. (It’s a military-style flip top buckle, if you need to look it up, like I did. Hehe) Fit: I’m a plus size 1x or Womens 16 pants size, this belt fits comfortably with a little room to spare. And it can be adjusted to pretty much any size under that, since you can slide the buckle to make it any length. On the Belt buckle: Very clear, vibrant colors and deep black. I used a high-resolution, high contrast image with simple shapes. (And no light colors.) On the Canvas Belt: Very vibrant, clear printing. A tiny bit of smudging along the edge, in one spot, where the black meets dark pink, but honestly I like the look of that in this case.

Maybe it was my mistake, but I didn't see an option to pick the length of the belt. As someone who wears size 4 in pants, it's pretty long, but definitely not a bad thing in my opinion! The belt feels like high quality material. The buckle seems to be very sturdy, too! I have not used it yet, but will today when I go to work. Can you tell I work at a pet store by the pictures? Lol! Anyway, I would definitely recommend getting this belt for what ever the occasion; it's a great price for such great material! The material of the belt is seen through the picture, giving the pictures a wavy look, but the pictures came out perfectly! The colors are exactly like the original picture, in all the belt is just beautiful! Even the picture on the buckle is amazing and doesn't look like it can easily come off, although the buckle picture seems a bit brighter than the original. In all, I'm extremely impressed with how it turned out, and definitely recommend it if you want to have your own pictures on the belt! PS, all the pictures on both sides of the belt turned out perfect!
