About This Design
We Depend On Miracles Ceramic Tile
A hand-painted, blue-on-white, sign posted outside a shop in the Israeli town of Rosh Pina. The sign has English-language text reading, WE DON'T BELIEVE IN MIRACLES, WE DEPEND ON THEM" on a representation of Israel's flag.
Rosh Pina is located in the upper Galilee, on the eastern slope of Mt. Kna'an. One of the earliest Zionist settlements, it was founded in 1882 by thirty families from Romania who wished to begin farming. Emmer (Triticum dicoccoides), the ancestor of most common types of wheat grown today, was found growing wild near Rosh Pina in 1906.
