Great for instructing how to set a table. The placemat is the size of a standard place setting (12" x 18") and so is large enough to be used as a placemat, but if you intend to eat on it, I advise laminating it. This item's best use is as a guide for setting table stations. The setting of each table tells the guest (diner) what courses will be served at the meal. This station is set for salad, bread, soup (bowl not shown), main dish and dessert (plate not shown). Guests use utensils moving from outside-inward. All special items (escargot tongs, fish forks, sherry glasses, etc), go in the order of courses moving from outside-in. Knife blades always face the dish or the diner (for safety and communication). Utensils in play rest on the course plate, never on the table. Communal dishes are not in the image as this placemat only addresses the placesetting.
