Jacob’s Ladder depicts the dream of the biblical patriarch Jacob in which he perceived a ladder of angels climbing towards heaven. Blake illustrates the scene with a spiral staircase rising from the head of Jacob, passed the star filled night sky, toward the brightly illumined sun of heaven.
