William Turner - Vesuvius in Eruption Ceramic Tile

William Turner - Vesuvius in Eruption Ceramic Tile

Vesuvius in Eruption, painted in 1817-1820 in watercolor on paper by British Romantic painter Joseph Mallord William Turner (J. M. W. Turner). The painting imagines the volcano erupting in a violent burst of fire, smoke and falling material above the Bay of Naples. Turner did not witness the eruption firsthand; the Yale Center for British Art describes a sheet worked with watercolor, gum and scraping, techniques that intensify the drama of the sublime natural event.

Ceramic Tile, 4.25" x 4.25"
From the pictures we needed to replace two tiles that had the old toothbrush and soap dish and the tile guy said two tiles would have to be removed. The tiles were PERFECT! just a slight color difference to the naked eye but they match pretty darn good. Tile guy had to shave the back because the 1957 tile was thinner but as you can see it worked out great! We are elated over the moon happy, Thank you!
