The Willow Ptarmigan (Willow Grouse) is found throughout Canada and Alaska. This sub-arctic bird has excellent camouflage capabilities where it is all white in the snowy winter and brown and white during times of little and no snow. It is a fairly large bird that is approximately the size of a crow. John James Audubon is the artist of this fine illustration. The Willow Ptarmigan was painted in the early 1800's using watercolors and pen-and-ink.
