The cross: It is both a symbol of horrible cruelty and injustice, and a reminder of the most beautiful act of love ever freely given. I tried to capture both those aspects in this piece. This artwork quotes a portion of the verse Isaiah 53:5. The whole verse is as follows: "But he was pierced for our transgressions. He was crushed for our iniquities. The punishment that brought our peace was on him; and by his wounds we are healed.." (World English Bible, 2013, Public Domain)
