The design was inspired by traditional Asian and Chinese art styles for circular design for emblems and symbols. On the top, it reads "Xīnnián kuàile" which means happy lunar new years in Chinese. A Chinese character for tiger is written in a calligraphic font to increase the authenticity to Asian styles.

I love the pattern, but it is much browner in person than the photo. Also after washing the back fabric shrinks more than the front fabric so the placemat is uneven. The printing is great except for the color which is much browner.
