About This Design

"Birling Champ" Hat

"Birling Champ" Hat

Log rolling Champs know, sometimes called birling, is a sparring sport involving two competitors, each standing on one end of a free-floating log in a body of water. The two battle to dislodge each other from the log while keeping their own footing on it by spinning and kicking it and various other means. In the United States, an official organized logrolling competition is called a roleo! Old time logging: It took agility skill and daring to jump on a log in the mill pond and roll it. Yet those vintage loggers were adept at doing just that! They would walk across the mill pond of logs all day long, sorting, maneuvering, and rolling each log to an exact place on the water. It was hard dangerous but exciting work for the vintage logger!
