Business Cards - MARYLAND
As one of the original Thirteen Colonies of England, Maryland was founded by George Calvert, 1st Baron Baltimore. The Baltimore Oriole has been the State Bird since 1947. The Oriole's feathers are black and gold, the same colors as in the Calvert family shield. Among its occasional nicknames are Old Line State, the Free State, and the Chesapeake Bay State. It is named after Henrietta Maria, the French-born queen of England, Scotland, and Ireland, who was known then in England as Mary. In 1790, the state ceded land for the establishment of the U.S. capital of Washington, D.C. Though the 8th smallest state, by land area, Maryland is packed with venues for history, culture and fun. From the Mermaid Museum in Berlin, MD to the Mushroom House in Bethesda, MD, this state has much to offer. Maryland is often referred to America in Miniature. Maryland possesses a variety of topography within its borders, contributing to its nickname America in Miniature. It ranges from sandy dunes dotted with seagrass in the east, to low marshlands teeming with wildlife and large bald cypress near the Chesapeake Bay, to gently rolling hills of oak forests in the Piedmont Region, and pine groves in the mountains to the west. In 1989 the Maryland Blue Crab was designated the State Crustacean. In 1964, the Chesapeake Bay Retriever, named after the famous bay region of the breed's origin, was declared the official dog of Maryland. A working dog bred to recover waterfowl for hunters, the Chesapeake Bay Retriever is one of only a few breeds actually developed in the United States. The Black-Eyed Susan has been the official Maryland flower since 1918. This design features the outline of the state of Maryland filled with delightful, iconic Black-Eyed Susans, crowned by a text image of "MARYLAND" in a rich, marshy caramel on a blue background that pays homage to the waters that run through and embrace this magnificent state. These lovely, fully-customize-able business cards are an excellent choice for Maryland Tour Guides, Maryland Travel Agencies or any business associated with Maryland tourism.
