Wedding Save the Dates from Zazzle

The question has been popped, the family has been notified, the plans are starting to come together. Excite your guests with a stunning save the date card! Just add a photo, date, personal message, and stamp - you're all set!

What is a save the date?

Great question! A save the date is similar to a wedding invitation, except it is sent well in advance of the formal invitation. Its purpose is to give your guests an opportunity to learn the date of your wedding, arrange for time off work if needed, organize childcare and to make travel arrangements. Unlike an invitation, it likely does not contain the precise location, exact time of the ceremony, gift requests, accommodation information, or any other special requests that pertain to the wedding itself. Essentially, it is a way of keeping the guests in-the-know about when and where your wedding is, while you work out the finer details.

When should you send a save the date?

  • Local wedding? Send them 4–6 months before the big day.
  • Destination wedding? Give guests extra time - send them 6–12 months in advance. This will give your guests as much time as possible to start making plans and budgeting for the big day, without giving away too much of the surprise.

What Should Be Included in the Save the Date Card?

It's best to keep your Save the Date simple - include your names, wedding date, and the destination. While full details aren’t needed yet, a short note can be helpful. For more wording tips, check out our Wording Tips & Etiquette for Your Save the Date Cards article!

Do save the date cards come with envelopes?

Most save the date cards include free white envelopes, though some types of envelopes may have an extra cost. Postcards do not come with envelopes. On each individual product page you will find information regarding envelopes specific for that item.
