About This Design

Celtic Knot "Durrow" Pattern Fabric

This Celtic knot design pattern was derived from a carpet page in the Book of Durrow. The Book of Durrow is a medieval illuminated manuscript gospel book in the Insular art style. It was probably created between 650 and 700. The place of creation may have been Durrow Abbey in Ireland or a monastery in Northumbria in northeastern England (where the monastery at Lindisfarne would be the likely candidate) or perhaps Iona Abbey in western Scotland. The Book of Durrow was certainly at Durrow Abbey by 916. Today it is in the library at Trinity College, Dublin. You can customize the gold color.

The sample image online does not do the fabric justice. When I received it in the mail and unfolded the fabric I was astounded at the beauty of this pattern. I made a corset with just the front panels with the fabric everything else was black and I got to say I love my new corset. I have plenty of fabric to make a couple small pouches but whatever else small accessories I want to make. I'm pretty sure I might be buying more of this traffic later.

I used this fabric with a shiny black fabric on the back to make several throw pillows for myself and other members of the Moran "clan!" Fabric is a bit stiff but that just made it easier to cut and work with as far as pillows are concerned. Colors were as expected and lines were fairly clean. Just what I expected!
