Classical St. Patrick's Day Mug

Classical St. Patrick's Day Mug

This mug presents three colorful images typically associated with St. Patrick's Day and labeled in Latin and Ancient Greek: a leprechaun, a shamrock, and gold at the end of the rainbow. With the full set of these classical mugs, you or your favorite Latin teacher can celebrate all the holidays that typically occur during the traditional school year Notes: 1. Obviously, the leprechaun tradition is not demonstrably two thousand plus years old, so there is no Latin or Greek word for "leprechaun." I have chosen to call him a "magical dwarf from Ireland" and used the ancient name "Hibernia" for the island known since antiquity. 2. The words used for "shamrock" are the ancient terms for "clover" and mean "three leaf." 3. A rainbow is a fairly straightforward concept, but for the container I have chosen a word that means something like "caldron" or "kettle." In antiquity this container would probably have been made of copper, whereas in my image it is blue. I am aware of the discrepancy, but consider it an acceptable instance of artistic license in return for such a nice image. Diehard classicists, please accept my apology. In keeping with the structure of Latin and Ancient Greek, I have expressed the concept as "caldron full of gold."

It is a lovely mug. The actual mug is shiny and smooth. Very nice quality. It was everything I expected. Zazzle has so many nice mid century modern designs to choose from. All so pretty! The design was very clear and looked expensive.
