Early Massachusetts Postcard

The Massachusetts Bay Company was formed in 1628. It was composed of shareholders and bought land from the Council for New England. The grant gave them all the land between the Merrimac and Charles rivers and three miles beyond each river, extending to the acific Ocean on the west. The settlement of Salem was made at Naumkeag in June of that year under the leadership of John Endicott. In March of 1629, the Massachusetts Bay Company received their charter from Charles I, giving it the right to govern the colonies it should plant in America. (Graphic circa 1850.
