Eielson Air Force Base Alaska Postcard
Eielson Air Force Base in Alaska is a United States Air Force base located 26 miles southeast of Fairbanks, Alaska. Eielson is home to the 354 Fighter Wing which is part of the Eleventh Air Force (11 AF) of Pacific Air Forces.
It was named in honour of polar pilot Carl Ben Eielson, an American aviator, bush pilot and explorer. In 1929, Eielson died in an air crash in Siberia while attempting to evacuate furs and personnel from the Nanuk, a cargo vessel that was trapped in the North Cape.
