The olive tree is a highly appreciated tree, not only for its economic values (some countries derive great part of their income from them!) but also for its beauty and symbolism. In Greek mythology, Zeus had Poseidon (God of the Sea) and Athena (goddess of beauty and love) compete against each other for the rule over Athens. Poseidon produced a spring; Athena produced an olive tree. Athenians chose the olive tree and the goddess became the ruler of the city that carries her name.
Aside from its history, the silvery green tree is beautiful, particularly when its white blooms open up, ready for pollination...thus starting the process of olive production.
