About This Design

Haeckel Florideae Mug

Plate 65 from Ernst Haeckel’s visually dazzling Kunstformen der Natur, the Art Forms of Nature, published in 1904. With the assistance of Jena artist-lithographer Adolf Giltsch, Haeckel produced one hundred plates depicting the forms of animal life, mainly marine animals. With this book Haeckel wanted to create an “esthetics of nature” and to show how the incessant struggle for existence he had learnt from Darwin was in fact producing an endless beauty and variety of forms – Darwin and Humboldt combined together.

It is a lovely mug. The actual mug is shiny and smooth. Very nice quality. It was everything I expected. Zazzle has so many nice mid century modern designs to choose from. All so pretty! The design was very clear and looked expensive.

This product caught my eye as the perfect gift that acknowledges the lifelong nurturing of mothers. All cups were individually and securely bubble wrapped for easy reshipping. (nice touch) Printing is a bit small for me to read but I look forward to blessing my daughters and others with this message of their sacrificial love. Thanks much. Printing was a challengingly small for me to read.
