Henry Every Postcard

Henry Every Postcard

Henry Every, also known as Captain Kidd and Long Ben, was a notorious English pirate who operated during the late 17th century. Born around 1653, Every started his maritime career as a sailor in the Royal Navy and later became a privateer, legally authorized to attack enemy ships during times of war. However, following the end of the War of the Grand Alliance in 1697, privateers like Every found themselves unemployed and turned to piracy. In 1694, Every became the captain of the pirate ship Fancy and embarked on one of the most infamous pirate voyages in history. Every's most notorious exploit took place in 1695 when the Fancy attacked the Grand Mughal ship Ganj-i-Sawai in the Indian Ocean. The loot from this single capture was enormous, making Every and his crew immensely wealthy. The audacity of attacking a ship of the powerful Mughal Empire brought significant heat on Every, and he became one of the most wanted men in the world. Every managed to evade capture, disappearing from historical records. The mystery surrounding his fate and the vast treasure he acquired have contributed to the enduring legend of Henry Every in pirate lore.
