Some years planning a Halloween costume is easy, while other years it’s…not. If you’re finding yourself in the “not” camp this year, ask yourself these questions: Are you a fan of The Little Mermaid? Do you want to be where the people are? Do you want to see ’em dancing? If you answered “yes” to any of these, we’ve got the idea for you. This year, make it simple with this super cute, effortless mermaid Halloween costume.
Don’t worry! It’s suitable for mermen too!
Here’s what you’ll need:
- Mermaid Shell T-Shirt
- Mermaid Scale Leggings
- Beach Hair Accessories
Designs we used include: Under the Sea T-Shirt and Mermaid Scale Beach Leggings
Here’s how you create a DIY mermaid costume:
Time needed: 10 minutes
It has never been easier to turn into a mermaid when you follow these quick, easy steps!
- Give yourself some beach waves!
A quick way to get beachy hair is by either braiding your hair and taking it out after a few hours OR using a curling iron or hair straightener to create the waves on your own!
- Add hair accessories!
Add a starfish or shell hair accessory to complete the look. If you want to go full Ariel, throw on a red wig and sing your heart out!
On Halloween night, throw on the custom t-shirt and leggings. The all-over print leggings are so comfortable and vibrant you’ll want to wear them the next day to yoga. Your friends in troublesome outfits and sticky face paint will be jealous!

If this fin-tastic costume inspires you to dress as a mermaid for Halloween, please share a photo with us by using the hashtag #zazzlemade on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter. We’d love to see your ensemble!

I was a cowgirl one year. It was so easy I just put on my horse show clothes. Easy peasy best costume ever because I didn’t have to go buy a costume and my parents didn’t have to spend money on a costume that I would have outgrown by the next year. I thought it was so fun because I got to wear my horse show clothes and cowgirl boots to school for the day.
