DIY: Wedding Reception Hand Fan Game

Traditional American wedding receptions have a general formula. There’s the dinner, then the dancing, then the cake, then the tosses. Keeping it classic is cool, but if you’re looking to break the mold, we’ve got an idea for you. Surprise your guests with an interactive game the whole party will enjoy.  It’s a bit like The Newlywed Game, but your friends and family get to weigh in. Sound up your alley? Follow the instructions below to learn how to play.

Here’s what you’ll need:

Design your custom hand fans by uploading photos of you and your boo, placing one person’s face per side. With the purchase of your desired quantity, you’ll receive wood handles and glue dots. You can purchase them assembled for an additional cost.

Here’s how you do it:

If you purchase your hand fans disassembled, you’ll need to put them together. Simply add a few glue dots to each side of the wood handles, then center the paper sheets onto them. Be sure each side showcases a different face!

At the wedding reception, include a fan at each place setting or pass them out to your guests when you’re ready to play. To start the game, sit with your spouse in the center of the dance floor, back to back, each with a fan in hand. Designate a DJ or loved one to MC the game.

The rules are simple. The MC will call out questions about the newlyweds. You and your guests will then answer using the fan paddles. If everyone thinks you’re more likely to lose your keys, they’ll hold up your face. If your partner is the perceived better dancer, your guests will flip the fan. Everyone will roll in laughter when you both disagree on who is messier!

Here are some question ideas:

  • Who is the better cook?
  • Who was cooler in high school?
  • Who is more likely to be late to work?
  • Who is more creative?
  • Who wants more kids?
  • Who snores most?
  • Who is most likely to get a speeding ticket?
  • Who has the crazier family?

Make it even more special by including questions specific to the couple. The possibilities are endless!
