A baby’s first year is full of milestones and one of the most exciting is a baby’s first Christmas! Realistically, he or she is too little to know what is going on, so there’s no need to spend a fortune on presents (unless you really want to!) But no doubt you’ll still want to make the first Christmas special – for the whole family to enjoy and to create memories for years to come. Here are some small things you can do to celebrate a baby’s first Christmas.
Send a Card
Even if you didn’t send photo Christmas cards before, now that you have an incredibly cute new member of the family to show off, you’ll probably change your mind! Perhaps you haven’t sent out new baby cards at all yet, in which case you can combine the happy news with season’s greetings in a holiday birth announcement card.
Seasonal Outfits
You’re never too young to dress up for Christmas! There’s no need to shell out a lot of money on an expensive outfit when a cute baby Christmas t-shirt or a teeny pair of festive pajamas will look just as adorable on the day of and in photographs. Remember, this is a one time wear kind of occasion, so buy items in a size that fits now rather than in one they will ‘grow into.’
Start a Tradition
Lots of families have their own seasonal traditions – from leaving a carrot out for Rudolf, to hanging stockings on the mantle, to doing a tour of the neighborhood Christmas lights. Now that you have a growing family of your own, it’s nice to pick out one or two things that you and your partner enjoyed as children, then add a few new ideas of your own to make into your own family tradition.
Baby’s First Ornament
One popular tradition is to add a new ornament to your collection every year. So why not mark this particularly special season with a baby’s first Christmas ornament customized with your child’s name and photo? Your baby’s first Christmas is all about making memories, and one way to save them all in one place is to start a keepsake box. Pop all those nostalgic little things inside – like the ribbon from their first gift or a copy of your baby’s first Christmas card. If you’re feeling particularly creative, you could also make imprints of your baby’s feet with a clay kit!
Take Tons of Photos
They don’t have to be fancy or posed photographs, but make sure to capture some fun and natural shots of your baby’s first Christmas. You can share the pictures with family members who can’t be there in person, and even make them into photo gifts. Why not even start a tradition of photographing your little one in a particular place every year, to record how much they grow!
