How to Throw a Galentine's Day Party

Galentine’s Day is held one day before Valentine’s Day, on February 13th, and is meant to celebrate the love and relationship ladies have for their friends, instead of their fellas. Whether you just got out of a relationship or are just more excited about celebrating your friendships this year, Galentine’s Day is for you! Gather your friends, your coworkers or your book club for a day of celebrating each other, and read on to make sure you have all the details in place to do so!

Pick a Theme

Make it fancy – For a more formal affair, organize a dinner or pot luck for your ladies. Who says we only have to dress up for the men? Put on your best dress (pink or red encouraged!), and get all gussied up together!

Have a PJ Party – If you’re in for a more casual celebration, invite your friends to wear their best pajamas for a movie night or morning brunch.

Pro tip: Have the gal with best jammies get a special prize!

Invitations

A few weeks in advance, it’s the time to gather your gals! Pick an invitation design that echoes the colors of Valentine’s Day, while also giving a nod to your ladies. Make sure to include the date, time, location and any dress code you’d like them to stick to.

Pro tip: If you’re doing any sort of crafts, make sure to tell your guests not to bring anything too fancy, or make sure to provide smocks so they don’t accidentally ruin their best dress!

Décor

If you’re having a party at your home, make sure it’s decked out in decorations! You can easily use the same items available for Valentine’s Day, but go all out and get some things that are special for your event. We especially love paper plates for easy cleanup and customized balloons that can be used for years to come.

Food

For a true Galentine’s Day celebration, go all out with breakfast food as they do on the television show! If you’ve got a heart-shaped waffle maker or cookie cutter, make all your food into adorable and loving shapes. If your group is into it, make sure the mimosas, wine or cocktails are flowing! Let each guest know which glass is theirs with a wine tag that matches the theme, and top off your bubbly bottles with a cute and customized bottle label.

Games & Entertainment

Netflix isn’t going to marathon itself. If you and your ladies have some time, plan a rom-com movie marathon! Make it a little more interesting by taking a sip of your beverage every time a character says “I love you”, cries, gets engaged, etc.

Make some crafts together! Pick something easy and customizable options that each lady can make on their own, and also have to take home with them. Some ideas could be cookie decorating, flower arranging or making your own bath bombs with different colors and scents.

Favors

As a gift for your ladies on Galentine’s Day, look into getting them something that can be used year round and also that embraces the love you have for each other! Some ideas are tote bags with a feminine-empowering phrase or a mug that features a quote from Leslie Knope herself.

If you and your ladies are planning a Galentine’s Day party this year, you don’t want to miss a single detail! For everything from invitations to favors, you’re sure to have a great time that celebrates the ladies in your life. In Amy Poehler’s words, “By subverting the expectation of Valentine’s Day, Galentine’s Day reminds you that the women in your life are often your truest and longest loves.” Go, girls!
