June's Quilt Puzzle

My grandmother loved to listen to polka or chat and work on a puzzle. She also loved to make things with fabric - especially quilts. Seems only fitting to combine those two sweet things! I think both of these pastimes were about keeping her hands busy, her mind calm, and (at least sometimes) being with people. The puzzles are a collage of images of my grandmother's quilts (just a few of them!). There are quilts here that were a part of her collection because they were special to her in some way. Quilts that were gifts from her kids and grandkids, quilts that she helped to finish that were started by her mother-in-law, quilts that she worked on with friends AND one that took her decades to finish. They are all representations of the simple day-to-day stories that are held in the tiny stitches that hold these brightly colored fabrics together. I am fascinated by the simple stories - the countless hours spent passing time with needle and thread and the life that is lived around the making of quilts. The volume of my grandmothers work is astounding - so many quilts worked on over the course of her life and so many made with friends and for her community. Sales from these puzzles will go towards production of a book with full color photos of the quilts in her collection that have been catalogued. Complete with stories and other sweet details of the work she did to bring comfort and laughter to people in her life.
