Long-Tailed Parakeet, Psittacula Longicauda Iphone Case

This elegant illustration captures the beauty of the Long-Tailed Parakeet (Psittacula longicauda), a striking bird known for its vivid green plumage, elongated tail feathers, and distinctive facial markings. Native to Southeast Asia, this species inhabits coastal forests, mangroves, and lowland woodlands, where it thrives in small flocks. The bird’s long, tapering tail—one of its most defining features—enhances both its aerodynamic agility and visual appeal. Males often display more pronounced coloration, including reddish tones around the face and a darker neck band, which adds to their ornamental charm. The artwork is inspired by the refined natural history illustrations of Jacques Barraband, whose contributions to ornithological art remain highly regarded. The inscription “La Perruche à nuque et joues rouges” reflects the French naming of this species, emphasizing its red nape and cheek coloration. Barraband’s meticulous attention to feather detail, texture, and posture is evident in this composition, where the parakeet is perched gracefully on a branch. The subtle shading and lifelike proportions exemplify the scientific precision and artistic sophistication characteristic of early naturalist studies. As a subject of both scientific interest and aesthetic admiration, the Long-Tailed Parakeet continues to captivate bird enthusiasts and researchers alike. Its diet primarily consists of fruits, seeds, and blossoms, and it plays a role in seed dispersal within its ecosystem. However, habitat loss and trapping have impacted wild populations, making awareness and conservation efforts increasingly important. This illustration not only celebrates the species’ beauty but also serves as a historical record of biodiversity, bridging art and science in a timeless depiction.
