About This Design

Red Paisley Exotic Pattern Fabric

A lovely paisley motif shown here in rich red tones is a rich and exotic choice for crafting. The paisley design traces its origins back to Persia and the Sassanid Dynasty, a period of time that stretches back to around 221AD. Its distinctive shape, likened variously to a tear drop, a kidney or even that most exotic of fruit the Mango was originally called “boteh jegheh” and was created as a motif for a religious movement known as Zoroastrianists. The design was supposed to represent the Cypress Tree which was their symbol of everlasting life.

The sample image online does not do the fabric justice. When I received it in the mail and unfolded the fabric I was astounded at the beauty of this pattern. I made a corset with just the front panels with the fabric everything else was black and I got to say I love my new corset. I have plenty of fabric to make a couple small pouches but whatever else small accessories I want to make. I'm pretty sure I might be buying more of this traffic later.

I used this fabric with a shiny black fabric on the back to make several throw pillows for myself and other members of the Moran "clan!" Fabric is a bit stiff but that just made it easier to cut and work with as far as pillows are concerned. Colors were as expected and lines were fairly clean. Just what I expected!
