San Francisco Cable Car Large Clock
The San Francisco cable car is one of the city’s most iconic and enduring symbols, offering both a historic ride and a practical way to explore its famously steep hills. Introduced in 1873 by inventor Andrew Hallidie, the cable car system was a revolutionary response to the city’s challenging terrain. Unlike traditional streetcars, these vehicles are pulled along by an underground cable that runs continuously beneath the streets. Operators use levers to grip or release the moving cable, allowing the cars to start, stop, and climb the hills with precision and safety. At its peak, San Francisco had more than twenty cable car lines; today, three remain in operation as both a transit system and a beloved tourist attraction.
Riding the cable car offers a unique, open-air experience through some of the city's most scenic neighborhoods. The Powell-Hyde and Powell-Mason lines start near Union Square and climb past Chinatown, Nob Hill, and Russian Hill, offering postcard views of the bay and Alcatraz. The California Street line, meanwhile, cuts a straight path through the Financial District and Nob Hill. At the cable car turnaround stations, passengers can watch conductors manually rotate the cars on wooden turntables—a charming bit of old-world engineering still in daily use. More than just transportation, the San Francisco cable car is a moving piece of history, celebrated for its charm, resilience, and the clang of its signature bell echoing through the city streets.

Great price for a very nice product. Arrived a day early - unheard of these days. The outside gold area has a little more orange tone to it than shown in the picture. Great packing so product can't get damaged. I used the same packing to forward the clock to my brother and sister-on-law for the 50th wedding anniversary. Printing was just as expected - lovely!

My 93- yr. old Dad has everything.....and now including a clock with pictures of him in action!
Was initially a bit difficult to size & position the pictures in each space, but the end product was worth the effort. He enjoyed it and it was definitely a unique way of memorializing good times in his life. Quality of print was good.
