Skull Design Note Card

This note card is based on a painting created by my husband. At first glance, what we see is a skull, but if we look closer, other details emerge. The septum is actually created by a lighthouse, and the cranium by an aged, worn compass. Fishnets, ragged and weathered, dangle from the upper mandible much as a tongue would hang from a mouth. In place of a lower mandible and chin, what we see instead is an anchor, which if you look closely, is wrapped in ribbon on both sides. Innovative, stunning, and finely detailed, this piece demonstrates what I believe to be my husband's primary intellectual strength: Flexible thinking. Not one to be limited by the restraints of fixed functionality-- like I am!-- Steve can always see the potential, the metaphor, the representative characteristics of any object and what it could be used to achieve. He can swap out objects as tools in pursuit of an outcome and create possibility where there seemed to be none. That's what this piece is about for me. What does it say to you?
