St Augustine Magnet
Castillo de San Marcos, St Augustine, FL A wooden fort defended St Augustine after its foundation. After the attack of the English pirate Robert Searle in 1668 a modern stone fort was built. Masons arrived from La Havana (Cuba) and the limestone was carried from a nearby island. The construction lasted 23 years. British troops from Charles town (Charleston) attacked St Augustine twice but couldn't capture it.
