Ray Maplewood was born in the north London suburb of Heston in Middlesex. His father was an industrial personnel manager and his mother a doctor's secretary. When he was 12 he hears Elvis for the first time and played in a couple of skiffle bands, before coming obsessed with the blues. Influenced by such pop acts as the Beatles and blues acts like Willie Dixon, He was unable to find work as a musician due to his dated sound and obsolete equipment.
