As parents, concerned about rising antisemitic attitudes and incidents in our schools, we set out to understand, track and shine light on the Jewish student experience (on and off campus and on- and off-line). Today, misinformation in classrooms and online; bullying, harassment and hate speech in school hallways and on social media; and anti-Jewish bias in our school communities are far too common. And this reality is contributing to a hostile learning and social environment for many Jewish students and families. We understand that individual incidents do not define a school. We also know that the majority of events that can make Jewish students feel unsafe and unwelcome in their schools are never reported. With the goal of fostering a shared awareness and understanding of the Jewish student experience, we are committed to open and ongoing reporting. While it is difficult to get a full picture of the bias, hate and prejudice that students and families may be experiencing, we aim to be as accurate, comprehensive and up-to-date as possible. In turn, we believe this insight will promote accountability and trust-building conversations between students, parents, teachers and school administrators. And positive, proactive dialogue is a critical step toward change. We have also heard from many parents about the need for resources to support their students and to educate their teachers and school administrators about antisemitism and Jewish history. We believe that every student has the right to a safe learning environment that is free from discrimination and hate. Our intent is to help schools better understand the experience and needs of their Jewish community, and to work collaboratively with teachers and school administrators to address areas for improvement.
